Postdoctoral Researcher Position in IMS-Mechatronics Lab of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Department at University of California, Davis
Begin Date: 10/1/06 or earlier
End Date: to be determined
Principal Investigators: Prof. Kazuo Yamazaki, Dr. Yadong Liu
Three to four postdoctoral positions are available now in the IMS-Mechatronics Laboratory at UC Davis, within the Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Department. Our research spans the design and development of next generation machine tool builder oriented CNC system, the whole project is named OMNI-CNC. The available positions involve design, study and implement the components of a CNC system, such as FPGA-based servo control system, PLC, human machine interface (HMI) and motion controller. The state-of-the-art interpolator and control algorithm are also considered to be integrated. Applicants should have a background in mechatronics and engineering field. Actual industrial projects experience in this area would be an advantage. The individual research will require one or more of the following knowledge or skill:
1. System dynamics, modeling and feedback control, especially motion control.
2. Mechatronics system or embedded control system design.
3. Automation control (PLC) programming.
4. CAM software application and NC programming.
5. RTOS knowledge and real-time programming ability.
6. C/C++ programming, Matlab, Statechart.
Additionally, the positions will involve communicating the design results in reports and scientific publications. The ability to work as part of a team and to learn new skills quickly is all important to being successful in this position. Excellent communication skills in English are essential. The positions are funded for 3 years normally, could be extended based on work performance. Interested individuals should forward their resume, professional references and a copy of a publication from previous research to:
